Back in 1999, Orient Express took control of the Machupicchu Sanctuary Lodge and remodelled it until May 2001, when it officially opened.
Among its rooms, the Sanctuary Lodge has 12 rooms with extraordinary and unique views over the ruins of Machupicchu.
As the Sanctuary Lodge is located outside the village of Aguas Calientes, the hotel offers a great variety of extra facilities and services to its clients such as their Tampu Gourmet Restaurant with bar exclusively for hotel guests. Besides this restaurant, the hotel also has another restaurant open for the public, called Tinkuy Buffet restaurants, where lunchtime a buffet will be prepared.
After your check out, if you still would like to stay a bit longer in the hotel while awaiting your train departure, the Sanctuary Lodge offers a hospitality or waiting room for its clients; complete with comfortable chairs, a DVD player and two bathrooms plus showers.
While waiting for your train, you could also order a massage in the hotels massage-room. Or, one could have a drink on the hotel's terrace or in the hotel's garden while enjoying the breathtaking views over Machupicchu and listening to the many birds living in this area.
An outside Jacuzzi, also with view over Machupicchu, is an extra feature that you can enjoy while staying at Machupicchu Sanctuary Lodge.

The hotels offer a waiting room where the clients can spend some some before taking the train back to Cusco.
Children policy:
- Children up to the age of 5 years old do not pay when they share a room and bed with their parents
- Children from 5 to 11 years old can stay in the same room as their parents, but here an extra bed is required
- Children from the age of 12 years old and older have to book a separate room. The hotel has some connecting rooms available
